As I've gotten older, the pimples on my face seem to have progressively multiplied and have now developed into something I'd definitely call acne. Acne isn't a word to throw around; a lot of people deal with this condition everyday. It is disheartening to wake up every morning and see that your skin is getting worse. I don't have it that bad but there is definitely room for improvement. I hope this post helps some of you out there. I'd definitely recommend seeing a dermatologist at any stage if you have access to a good one but especially if after 6 weeks, this process makes it worse or doesn't make a difference.
I should say that I was inspired to start this routine following a video on Caroline Hirons' Youtube channel with Dr Sam Bunting on Female Hormonal Acne. Definitely take a look!
Morning
To cleanse: Alpha H Balancing Cleanser. Cleanses without stripping the skin, soothes after the acids I've been using, provides moisture to counteract the dryness I'm experiencing and cools in the hot weather I've been experiencing lately.
To moisturise: Lalisse Skin Solutions Oil-Free Moisturiser. My experience with Lalisse started off well..the pharmacists recommended their 4 step acne treating system to me like it was going to fix all my problems. I tried to stick with it but the cleanser foamed too much for my liking. And whilst I do like the mask (I'll do a review later) and the moisturiser, the spot treatment/serum felt like it was burning my skin. So the foaming combined with the burning..it just didn't feel like I was doing the right thing for my skin. Sometimes you have to trust your instincts and when it comes to your skin, you want to make sure you're doing the right thing. Anyway, rambling aside, the moisturiser is simple and light but hydrating. I don't feel like it's making the situation worse whereas my other moisturisers, with their added ingredients to add glow or brightness to the skin feel like that's exactly what they're doing.
Weleda Wild Rose Smoothing Eye Cream: Expensive but lovely. My underyes are dark and form strange red spots in response to anything if I don't apply a specific eye cream (i.e. either this or an eye cream from Boots that I'll review later). You only need a tiny drop for both eyes.
To treat: La Roche Posay's Effaclar Duo (every day I wear makeup/go out). I came across this a long time ago but now I'm using it in conjunction with this 6 week treatment so I hope it works even better than it did before. Salicylic acid, moisture, lovely texture..what more could you want from an acne treatment?
Benzoyl Peroxide: Yes it bleaches your pillows and bedsheets but use it sparingly and it can help. I use this on the weekends if I'm at home for most of the day so I won't want to add makeup on my face. I have no idea how that would react with this product but I'd rather just let it do its thing on its own. A much nicer option for your skin that Dr Bunting recommends is the Dermalogica Special Clearing Booster but that's a little too expensive for me at the moment.
Night
To remove makeup: Clarins Pure Melt Cleansing Oil. For taking off my makeup. Lovely but make sure to spread it over your palms before massaging it into the skin or I find it drags. In depth review later.
To cleanse: Alpha H Balancing Cleanser
To moisturise: Lalisse Skin Solutions Oil-Free Moisturiser
Weleda Wild Rose Smoothing Eye Cream
To treat: Avene TriAcneal. A retinoid treatment I put all over my pimples. I've read that it's better to place it on individual pimples but right now, I have so many that all over application is necessary.
In 6 weeks, I'll let you know how it went. Hopefully it will have been worth it and I won't have to go see a dermatologist.
